Selective S/4HANA Transition

With maximum added value and high speed to the new SAP standard

Transitioning to SAP S/4HANA is a must. But no company can afford a spiraling, costly megaproject that takes five to six years. Time is the critical factor. So the key question is: How can the project be accelerated? Many companies currently face the major challenge of determining their optimal journey to SAP S/4HANA. SAP offers two options as standard: a new greenfield implementation or an upgrade/conversion of the existing system (brownfield). There are disadvantages to both: A completely new implementation is too complex and runs the risk of becoming an unwieldy project that takes between five and ten years and is ultimately doomed to failure. A pure upgrade is expensive, without offering efficiency gains or added value.

Why Selective S/4HANA Transition?

Time to value

speed is important, companies struggle with long roadmaps that would prevent them from doing even more important things. What does really matter for your company? How much time can you spend on your S/4HANA transition?

Support Digitization

Digitization is a Must-win battle for all companies. However, the flavors of digitization are manifold. Thinking about ERP systems on its own, the leverage for digitization is limited. Typically, ERP processes are already quite integrated, automated, Software supported etc. From our perception it is more about how to streamline the boundaries of ERP in order to generate seamless end-to-end processes across the whole landscape; so why spending a lot of time perfecting ERP processes if there is more potential to be found elsewhere

Strategic focus

We believe that focus is a crucial success factor for projects. Therefore, we recommend a rather focused project to reach the next level instead of trying to reach the perfect state which needs involvement and activation of all areas, functions, levels etc. It is the best way to get a good result out of the existing organization – which is typically not a perfect one.

Agility

Another way of looking at it is from an agile perspective:
The result of the selective option can be seen as the minimum viable product for the S/4HANA transition. It is reachable, has a quick feedback cycle and is still ambitious.

We believe in an 80/20 approach focusing on important items to improve instead of reinventing everything.

Cost

We experience that cost is an important factor for decision making. Even more important is the cost / benefit ratio. Compared to other options we see a better cost efficiency and a better result which leads to an enormous increase of the cost / benefit ratio for the Selective approach.

Market experience

SELECTIVE has already proven itself in practice in large-scale S/4HANA transformation projects, such as those of our customer VIESSMANN. As a result, we have helped the only industrial company in the world to a global go-live on S/4HANA. Classic approaches have not yet proven this.

What adds value within a reasonable time?

cbs offers an alternative route that we have already established in the market. The aim is to add value at process level; not across the board, as with a greenfield approach, but selectively.

The tailored approach of an SAP S/4HANA SELECTIVE transition combines selective process redesign and selective data transformation, cutting project implementation time by up to 50 percent. Businesses enjoy swifter access to innovation and also see an early return on investment due to rapid project implementation. This is SAP’s recommended migration approach for the top 2,000 SAP customers worldwide.

For international enterprises and large corporations that rely on SAP installations for a significant part of their business, there is really no alternative to a selective transition to SAP S/4HANA. This is the only way to make sure the transformation is economically viable and delivers innovations in an acceptable time.
